The platform is intended for customers of Smart Cam GmbH and serves their Smart-Trail cellular trail cameras: it receives the photos and videos the cameras send, recognises animals in them and lets the cameras be configured and controlled. A user account and sign-in are required to use it.

• Account data: name, email address and password (stored encrypted), and the spaces, cameras and permissions assigned to you. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address from that provider.
• Camera data: the photos and videos your cameras send, the animal recognition results, the camera's settings and status (battery or power supply, signal, SD card, SIM card number) and its position — the camera's own GPS position and the position you set on the map.
• Location of your phone: only when you use the app to place a camera at your current position, and only while the app is in use.
• Notifications: a device token so that we can send you push notifications, if you allow them.
• Technical and diagnostic data: IP address, device model, operating system and app version, connection type, error reports and, if you send a problem report, a screenshot of the app with your message.
• Communication data: what you send us via the contact form, a problem report or email.

We process this data to provide the platform, receive and show your recordings and control your cameras (performance of a contract, Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR or Art. 31 revFADP), to keep operations secure and stable, to find and fix errors, and to prevent misuse (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Trail cameras photograph wildlife but may occasionally capture people. Whoever sets up a camera is responsible for placing it lawfully and for respecting the privacy of others. Photos and videos are currently stored without a time limit until you delete them or your account is deleted.

The platform contains no advertising, uses no third-party analytics or tracking services and does not use an advertising ID. Your data is not processed for advertising purposes, not sold and not shared with third parties for advertising purposes.

Data is shared only where necessary for operation, with service providers acting as processors and exclusively on our instructions: hosting in Switzerland; delivery of push notifications via Expo, Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) and Apple (Apple Push Notification service); the mobile network operators that connect the cameras. Sign-in with Google or Apple takes place with those providers at your choice. The map in the app loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap, OpenTopoMap and swisstopo, which receive your IP address. Beyond this, data is shared only where required by law.

Account data is stored for the duration of the contractual relationship and deleted afterwards, unless statutory retention obligations apply. Photos and videos are retained as described in the section on trail camera recordings. Log and diagnostic data is stored only as long as necessary for the stated purposes.

Transmission between the app or web portal and our servers is encrypted (TLS). Access to data is protected by user account and permissions.

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. To exercise these rights, contact info@smart-cam.ch. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority (in Switzerland: the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, FDPIC).

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Account → Delete account) or request deletion by email to info@smart-cam.ch. Individual photos and videos can be deleted in the gallery at any time. We then delete your data, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

The platform is intended for adults and not for children. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in the law or in functionality. The version published on this page applies at any given time.
